Here at the C1 compound we celebrate freedom every day but today has some special significance.  Today is Juneteenth and we will recognize it with summertime festivities and a special menu including red beans and rice, Andouille sausage, corn on the cob, fresh greens from the garden, watermelon and, of course, the customary

Red soda water!

But any celebration of liberty must be tempered with the rememberance that freedom isn’t free and many have given their lives so that we can enjoy all these blessings.

As the country slips away and our liberty erodes at the hands of an increasingly fascist government I ask you to remain vigilant or we will all be doomed to slavery.-C1
